Bill Raftery designs new ‘Solace’ chair line
PROVO, Utah (June 3, 2008) – Bill Raftery, a multiple award-winning designer with over 25 years of experience in the furniture industry, recently completed the design of Seatability’s revolutionary Solace chair line. The remarkably chic office chairs were officially unveiled at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago on June 9.
Solace’s technologically advanced design combined with its creative and comfortable style sets it apart from all other office chairs. The Solace line utilizes Seatability’s patented flat-bungee technology, the Elasticity System, to create a distinctively sensational seating experience. This arrangement of elastic bands individually contours to each unique user according to their body type and sitting preference. For the Solace, Mr. Raftery increased the number of bungee bands from previous Seatability chairs, and enhanced the line’s style and charisma. The design is more original than anything Seatability has ever released.
“The chairs’ results are everything I had hoped for,” said Mr. Raftery. “With the Solace design, I tried to create a superior look and improved feel. By increasing the number of bands on the chairs, the seat and back appear more as a surface and less as an arrangement of cords. I eliminated all exposed fasteners and shaped its figure to be as simple and elegant as possible.”
Mr. Raftery is a three-time NeoCon Best in Show award winner. He runs his own studio in Ohio, Raftery Design Inc., and holds over 40 design and utility patents. He was first introduced to Seatability in 2007.
“We met Bill at NeoCon 2007, and he instantly fell in love with the fresh approach of our Seatability team,” said Derek Perkins, CEO of Seatability. “When we decided that it was time to take Seatability and the bungee chair category to a new level, we knew that working with Bill was going to be vital. I feel lucky that we were able to get such an accomplished chair designer to work with us on our new Solace project.”
